Several members from Parkinson’s Women Support will attend the Women and PD Conference at Wyndham Hamilton Park Hotel and Conference Center, Florham Park, NJ on Thursday, September 17, 2015 through Saturday, September 19, 2015.

The conference presented by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) offers an opportunity for attendees to develop leadership skills to advocate for the specific needs of women with PD. The event will include specialists in a variety of disciplines, including movement disorders, psychology, physical therapy, self-care and others.

The attendees include:

Darcy Blake  Ms. Blake works as a Director of Communications and Marketing at Menlo College in Atherton, CA. She co-founded the Parkinson’s Women Support group in the Bay Area, edits a blog on the topic (http://www.parkinsonswomen.com) and moderates the Parkinson’s Women Support Facebook page. She has shared her experiences living with PD in documentary films; served on the Kaiser Permanente Patient and Family Centered Care Advisory Board for Neurology,  and she has chaired fundraising events for research.

Ann Emiko Igarashi Boylan  Ms. Boylan has been a committee member on fundraising walks in Silicon Valley. As an active member of the Parkinson’s Women’s Support Group, she helps educate others in her community by presenting information about Parkinson’s disease at senior centers, libraries and physical therapy offices. She is currently working to bring more Parkinson’s exercise and movement classes to underserved communities surrounding Union City.

Susan Foster, R.N., B.S.N.  Ms. Foster leads her own sales training company and has more than 30 years of experience in clinical research, sales training and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry. Ms. Foster is is a PDF Research Advocate and a member of the leadership committee for the PDF Women and Parkinson’s Initiative. She was instrumental in starting the monthly Parkinson’s Women’s Support Group in the Bay Area, which now has over 60 members. In addition to her work with PDF, she served as a patient advocate for a Stanford University affiliated Stem Cell Research Oversight committee and she is a member of the board of directors of The Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center in Sunnyvale.

After completing the conference, attendees will share their knowledge with their communities to help other women live well and better manage their disease. PDF’s Women and PD Conference has been made possible with support from The New York Women’s Foundation, The Katz Institute for Women’s Health, North Shore – LIJ Health System, Alice Siegel and Eugenia Brin.
