Navigating your morning at Moving Day® Silicon Valley on Saturday, April 25 at Arena Green East, San Jose could be like trying to steer through a theme park. There is so much going on, you really need to make a game plan. You simply can’t cover everything. Here’s some advice.
If you arrive at 9am sharp, you can register for the walk, before the first mini-exercise classes starts at 9:30am. Each class is only 10 to 15 minutes long. They are all offered in tents called Pavilions.
9:30 AM – 9:50 AM
You can choose from Voice and Swallowing with Megan DePuy, PWR! Moves exercises with Kaiser physical therapists, Hula with Hawaiian teachers, Pole-walking with Jayah Faye Paley, Tai Chi, or Boxing with Rock-Steady Boxing SF.
10:00 to 10:20 AM
PWR! Moves exercises with Kaiser physical therapists, Dancing, Pilates for Parkinson’s with Kathy Buck Thomson and Shannon Shearn from RIBS, Pole-walking with Jayah Faye Paley, Tai Chi, or Boxing with Rock-Steady Boxing SF.
You’ll want to get to the demo stage for opening ceremonies and the ribbon cutting for the start of the walk. Balance exercises and a Zumba dance will energize you.
Not only that, you will want to give a round of applause for researchers working on Parkinson’s disease. They have come from all over the Bay Area for a special commemoration. It will be a touching addition to a wonderful celebration of movement that acknowledges the people who are working on our behalf, so be sure to bring a hanky.
The ribbon gets cut, and an amazing 1-mile, 2-mile, or 3-mile walk begins. At that point, you have three navigation choices.
1. Forget the walk and return to the tents where you can sample two more classes of exercises including:
10:45 to 11:15am
Balance exercises, Pilates with Stephanie Herman, Pole-walking with Jayah Faye Paley, Tai Chi, or Boxing with Rock-Steady Boxing SF.
11:30 to 11:50 am
Hula with Hawaiian teachers, Pilates with Stephanie Herman, Pole-walking with Jayah Faye Paley, Qi Gong, or Boxing with Rock-Steady Boxing SF.
2. Try the walk! If you can go at a clip, you’ll get back for one or two of the last classes of the day.
12:00 to 12:20 pm.
Yoga with Kujiweza Healing Arts, Dancing, Pole-walking with Jayah Faye Paley, Qi Gong, or Boxing with Rock-Steady Boxing SF.
3. Take in the closing ceremony and share your newfound energy with everyone!
Between all of that you might squeeze in a look at the Resource Pavilion, and then there is always the Waffleamore food truck from 9am to 11am. You’ve got choices!
