September 20, 2014 | by Darcy Blake | The National Parkinson Foundation Moving Day® Walk/Silicon Valley on April 25 in the Arena Green East (San Jose) is a fun, inspiring fundraising event that unites families, friends and communities in the fight against Parkinson’s disease. The leadership meeting for the event took off this week with sparks flying. A small group of trailblazers met over a sensational dinner at our friend Elaine’s house, and we shot ideas back and forth like fireworks.
Our discussion focused on the Movement Pavilion. This part of the event is the signature gem of the National Parkinson Foundation. Aside from the three walks—1 mile, 2 mile, and 3 miles— we will present a variety of activities that help us move to stay fit, and highlight “movement” and exercise as a symbol of hope and progress because of its essential role in treating Parkinson’s disease.
This collection of activities will be in one location. We’re not only talking walking, stretching or doing yoga in our center, we’re talking expert information as well from top figures in the health and fitness world on treatment, exercise of all kinds, tech toys, and services, products and/or information that are beneficial to someone with Parkinson’s disease. If you know a trainer, fitness instructor, or health representative who works with PD patients and would be able to teach an activity or help out, please email Colleen Fisher, email@example.com or call her cell phone 832-489-4500.
If you have any ideas or ways that we can make this Bay Area event great in 2015, please let us know. We’re looking for fun and exciting ways to make this Moving Day® one to remember and unique to our Bay Area. Choose your forte. Whether it is PR/media relations, recruiting corporate participation, getting the word out, hosting engagement events, organizing teams, procuring donations, there is a spot just for you. We’d love to share our next planning dinner with you!
