August 6, 2014 | by Darcy Blake | Russell Chertok, LMSW, CASAC-T recently opened an organization called Licensed Master Social Work Services, PLLC (LMSWS). LMSWS provides services throughout most of New York State offering In-Home Counseling and Care Management Services for the elderly.

This New York State Licensed Social Worker’s brainchild is brilliant because he provides a workaround for the frustrating task of handling the paperwork in managing one’s elderly life. If any of you have tried to fill out the forms for social security, trust funds, and medical documents, you’ll know what kind of time-consuming and exasperating experience it is.

LMSWS’ assistance includes the completion of Medicaid applications and recertification’s, Living Wills & Healthcare Proxy, Housing Applications and other applications. They act as an advocate for clients who have had their aide hours reduced or have failed to obtain an increase in needed hours of assistance. They provide in-home environment assessments and safety recommendations, and more.

In short, LMSWS is an extra pair of hands to watch over elderly family members. Chertok created Licensed Master Social Work Services in 2014 after his work with a healthcare provider showed the lack of quality in in-home services offered to individuals. He hopes that by making affordable and quality services more accessible, more people will accept assistance, gain greater control over their lives and reach their greatest potential.

Although LMSWS isn’t a local resource for those of us in California, we think Chertok’s mission is admirable, and we wish him the best of luck!
