A topic discussed at one of our recent lunches was the Aware in Care hospital kit that you can request atwww.awareincare.org or by calling 1-800-473-4636. There are oodles of articles on the subject, but in a nutshell, if you end up in a hospital, beware that 3 out of 4 people with Parkinson’s disease in the hospital do not receive their medications on time. There are online posts by nurses admitting it. Why? Imagine the stack of patients in their care. How on earth can they keep track of your frequent pill-popping and other patients at the same time! The National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) has launched the Aware in Care program to help people with PD get the best care possible during a hospital stay. You’ll now have a Hospital Action Plan and all the prep you need to make it out of the hospital no worse than when you arrived. Go online and do it. You never know when you’ll find yourself in a hospital gown without your lipstick and pill box.
